From the great feedback we’ve received from you and your community leads, we saw two common requests: reach every region in Canada and do more hands-on training. With your feedback in mind, this year, we’ll be taking a different approach to do just that. Rather than a single conference, we’ll be coming to you with the technical content and hands-on training you’ve asked for through various Microsoft-led, partner-led, and community-led events and activities.

You’ll be able to take part in more in-person events than previous years and all brought to you by the same team that has delivered Microsoft TechDays Canada. The in-person events will be available in various learning formats including workshops, camps, hackathons and others, allowing you to gain those skills by learning and then applying through hands-on activities.  In fact, if you attended the Windows 8 or Windows Azure DevCamps, Windows Phone Workshops, or the Windows 8 Hackathons, you’ve already experienced some of what is coming your way. By partnering with the broader technical community, user groups, and other organizations, we’ll be able to connect with you in more cities more frequently than was possible with a once-a-year large-scale conference.

If you prefer to learn online, you’ll see those in-person and hands-on events being offered online, giving you the same experience virtually - tune in, learn, ask questions, then apply with hands-on activities. You’ll interact with us LIVE, as if you were right there in the room. If you can’t make it to a desired event, many, if not all, of the virtual events will be available on-demand, helping to ensure that you don’t miss a thing.

With the combination of in-person and online events and activities to choose from, you get to pick where, when, and how you learn. While we’re still finalizing the details of some of the events and activities, here’s what’s coming up in the next little while and a few of which are already open for registration:

Windows Azure

Windows 8

Windows Phone

Next Steps
If you aren’t already, get connected with us. We’ll make sure that you know what’s happening when and where.

By the way, if you have or know of any local conferences or user groups you’d like us to be a part of, let us know! We’d be happy to evaluate the opportunity to participate. Email us at td_can@microsoft.com.

Thank you for all the support you’ve given TechDays over the past four years. We look forward to seeing you at conferences, camps, hackathons, workshops, etc. across the country and/or online.

WIN280 – Metro (Windows 8 + Mobile) – Part 1
Bruce Johnson, Atley Hunter
Recorded Live at ObjectSharp’s At The Movies 2012

The Metro interface has the potential to change how a lot of people use computers. You've already seen a little of it in the Windows Phone. More if you have downloaded the Windows 8 consumer preview. In this session, we will demonstrate how the power exposed by Metro (through live tiles, push notifications, immersive user experiences, etc.) can be harnessed to provide a usable and intuitive application.

NOTE: This extended TechDays TV session will continue on May 22.

With Visual Studio, reduction and simplification are the keywords. For .NET, assistance with parallelism this session is the big topic. Between these and other topics, the tools that will make your development life easier are covered.

June 19, 2012 | Starting at 12:00 PM ET

In today’s TechDays TV session, Jean Lozano from MediaValet discusses various development strategies that he and his team learned while ramping up development on Windows Azure. You’ll learn the lessons they learned from various cloud-related challenges faced during development and from an application support/maintenance perspective. This presentation will focus on insights acquired from architecting, building and maintaining a business application on Windows Azure over the last two years, using examples from MediaValet, a multi-tenant digital asset management system that was designed and developed from the ground up on Windows Azure.

On the Next TechDays TV Episode: Windows Server 2012 Getting Started–What’s New in Hyper-V (Part 2) http://www.techdays.ca/en/contentlibrary/blogpost/en/on-the-next-techdays-tv-episode-windows-server-2012-getting-started–what’s-new-in-hyper-v-(part-2).aspx2012-06-28T11:02:50DamirB http://www.techdays.ca/en/contentlibrary/blogpost/en/on-the-next-techdays-tv-episode-windows-server-2012-getting-started–what’s-new-in-hyper-v-(part-2).aspx

You don’t want to miss tomorrow’s TechDays TV episode.  A couple of weeks ago, we presented part 1 of Windows Server “8” Beta Getting Started:  What’s New in Hyper-V.  Since then the product name has been finalized – Windows Server 2012 – but all of the great features are still there. If you missed Part 1, you can watch it on-demand at the TechDays TV web site. That’s true for all the TechDays TV episodes.

Join us at 12 noon tomorrow (May 1) for the next episode of TechDays TV for IT Professionals on Windows Server 2012 Getting Started:  What’s New in Hyper-V (Part2). In this session Damir Bersinic (that’s me) takes you through more of the great functionality for Hyper-V in Windows Server 2012.  Here’s the abstract:

Windows Server 2012 (formerly Windows Server "8" beta) brings many enhancements to Hyper-V. This session will look at some of the new features in Windows Server 2012 that make it the definitive platform for Cloud computing including new networking, VM mobility, and redundancy capabilities, and more. We will also look at how these enhancements compare to offerings from VMware and show how the built-in functionality in Windows Server 2012 is a better alternative. In fact, there is so much in Windows Server 2012 that we can't fit it into one session so this is the second of two parts on the topic.

We look forward to seeing you online tomorrow.  Don’t forget to stay connected with us through various social media channels.

Watch the live Q&A with Bruce Johnson and Atley Hunter here.

A new alert comes into the Data Center operator and he chooses to allow a full Disaster Recovery Plan to execute to a backup data center with a click of a single button. Once again the site is up and running. In this session you will see how the System Center Suite of products integrates and executes automated processes in the Data center environment. This will be a very active demo-filled session that you don't want to miss.

The majority of the information about the development process is trapped in silos, preventing organizations from understanding their risks, stopping them from objectively reporting on progress, and wasting untold hours by manually stitching together data to get only a hazy view of the end-to-end process. End-to-end ALM tools, such as Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and Team Foundation Server 2010, help reveal the entire development process, highlight opportunities for change, reveal risks, and provide management with an all-up view that is objective, timely, and accurate.
